Therapy Intensives and EMDR Intensives for Trauma

Intensive Healing: Accelerate Your Emotional Recovery.

ONLINE AND IN-PERSON THERAPY IN SPOKANE AND ACROSS WA, ID & VT

Trauma is hard; finding the time to heal shouldn’t be.

Are you struggling with a specific distressing issue or trauma? What if you could address what you are struggling with and even resolve it in 1 - 3 days versus months or years in therapy? Therapy Intensives provide an accelerated therapeutic approach that can quickly reduce the effects of trauma, depression, anxiety, and other issues by efficiently reprocessing distressing memories. Maybe you’ve been to therapy before and didn’t get what you needed out of it or found it really hard to return to “normal life” after discussing really heavy or difficult topics every week.

Intensive Therapy can help you feel better faster.

Intensive therapy is a way of accelerating the healing that would typically take place at a slower rate within the traditional weekly therapy format. In an intensive therapy session, the progress typically spread across weeks or months gets compressed into an immersive one-to-three-day experience of extended processing sessions. The intensive’s concentrated format allows you to dive deeper into your therapeutic work. Therefore, you can see results more quickly because of the extended processing time.

Effective, researched-based therapy offered in a flexible, innovative way.

  • Uncover strengths you didn’t know were there and experience the change you are seeking.

  • Gain understanding of how your trauma impacted you and what kept you going.

  • Find who you are now and how to hold onto your inner peace and balance.

WHY DO INTENSIVE THERAPY?

  • You have a painful experience impacting you still today.

  • You want to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for a big life event.

  • You have a significant issue you want to address that is difficult to approach.

WHO CAN INTENSIVE THERAPY HELP?

  • Survivors of trauma.

  • Painful life experiences.

  • Those whose schedule does not allow for consistent weekly/biweekly therapy.

How does it work?

We conduct a Pre-Intensive Interview before the Intensive to establish the purpose of our time together. We will look at what is currently going on in your life now, including your support system, stressors, coping mechanisms, and areas where you seek support or significant progress.

Throughout the intensive therapy session, we focus on two main objectives: 1) Reduce the painful experiences in your life and 2) Increase the positive feelings in your life. This involves either specifically using EMDR Reprocessing along with resourcing activities like guided meditation, artwork, or somatic exercises—all incorporating the bilateral stimulation utilized in EMDR or using an eclectic mix of research-based therapy modalities. Depending on what you need, we may delve into early life relationships (attachment) or take a more future-template approach. The process is highly individualized and tailored to your needs.

Following the Intensive, we engage in a Post-Intensive Interview to reflect on the aspects that resonated most with you and discuss how to integrate those insights into your ongoing life. Intensive Therapy is a short-term therapy investment that can yield long-term and lasting results. While time alone may not heal all wounds, the focused approach of intensive therapy can expedite your journey to feeling better sooner.

Common questions about Intensives

Work 1:1 with a specialized therapist to accelerate healing. In-person or virtual.

  • Intensive application of trauma-focused therapy seems to be well tolerated in patients with PTSD, enabling faster symptom reduction with similar, or even better, results, while reducing the risk that patients drop out prematurely. Learn more here and here.

Intensive EMDR treatment is feasible and is indicative of reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a very short time frame. Learn more here.

The research is compelling: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time, because of time not spent on a) checking in at the beginning of each session, b) addressing current crises and concerns, c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, or d) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session.

Intensive trauma therapy treatment is not only effective but also an economically valuable way to approach healing the root of trauma. Learn more here.

  • Intensives are periods of concentrated treatment, whether that’s part of a day or a weekend. Weekly therapy must start and stop according to a 55-minute time slot, while intensives allow you to go deeper, getting to the root of the problem more efficiently. This means resolution can happen far more quickly as well.

  • Absolutely. Intensives can be a helpful way to get “unstuck” and continue making progress in traditional weekly therapy. If desired, we can coordinate care with your current therapist.

  • Your results will depend upon the extent of your trauma history or issue you are trying to address. However, intensive packages are structured to provide you with the skills you need to get the most out of our work together. This means we can dive deep during our intensive day(s) to create space for positive, lasting changes.

Although I cannot make any guarantees that all your symptoms will be resolved, you will accelerate your healing process and experience lasting changes. It truly will be a transformative experience!

  • I know that the investment in an intensive package is a big cost upfront, but in the long run it may be more cost effective than weekly therapy. Within the traditional therapy format, we would have 55 minutes to check in, begin EMDR processing, utilize coping skills to contain the work, and wrap up the session.

As a result, the processing phase of the session has to compete with the other phases of the session. Within the intensive format we have a three-hour time frame to dedicate to your concerns. Plus, instead of having to wait months to feel better, you can experience the same results in a matter of days.

  • By booking the Intensive, you have purchased this time and it is yours unless you cancel at least 2 weeks prior to Day 1

If you cancel the EMDR Intensive within 2 weeks of Day 1, you will be charged the total amount of the Intensive Package.
