First Responders Therapy and L&I Counseling
The call ends.
Your body’s response doesn’t.
What you’re up against (and why you’re not “too much”)
You see what most people can’t imagine. When the sirens fade, your nervous system stays lit up - heart pounding, muscles tight, hyper-aware. On scene, in the rig, at 0300…it’s why you’re good at what you do. It’s the job - but it’s also the cost. And over time, that cost stacks up: in your body, in your relationships, in your sense of self.
If you’re a firefighter, law enforcement officer, EMT, dispatcher, corrections officer, veteran, or other first responder, you already know - off duty isn’t really off. Sleep slips. Patience thins. Home can start to feel like another incident to manage.
The stigma of getting help is changing, but the old code still whispers: handle it, don’t feel it, bottle it up. You’re not broken. You’re built for threat.
Therapy helps your body remember what safety feels like.

What Life Can Look Like:
Imagine sleeping through the night and waking up rested
Feeling like yourself again, not just the uniform
Being present with your spouse, kids, and friends without the job intruding
Finding relief in healthy ways instead of old coping habits
Knowing that asking for help doesn’t mean weakness - it means resilience
“Behind every uniform is a human being who deserves the same care they give.”
Why This Work Is Personal to Me
For more than twenty years, my work has been about helping people heal from trauma, addiction, and the weight they’ve carried for too long. I’m certified in EMDR and trained in advanced trauma-informed care, taught future clinicians, and written about addiction as more than a habit - it’s a response to hurt.
It’s also personal. My husband is a combat veteran and a second-generation career firefighter. I know the dark humor, the long shifts, the tradition - and the cost. In this space, you don’t have to explain the job before you get help. Strength and service are honored here; this is a place to set the weight down.
How Therapy Helps
Through EMDR and trauma-informed therapy, we’ll work to calm a body that’s always “on”:
Turn down hypervigilance and intrusive memories
Sleep more deeply, reset after critical incidents
Process grief, line-of-duty loss, and cumulative trauma that stacks over years
Rebuild connection at home without feeling like you’re failing the team
Navigate L&I claims with documentation, treatment plans, and communication that gets you the care you’ve earned
What It’s Like to Work With Me
No stigma. No judgment. Just straightforward, respectful care.
Culturally competent. I understand first responder culture and the realities of this work.
Collaborative and practical. We set goals together. You’ll get tools you can use on and off shift.
Flexible access. In-person in Spokane or Coeur d’Alene, or secure telehealth anywhere in Washington State and Idaho.
L&I-friendly. I provide the documentation you need for claims and continued care.
What Changes When Treatment Fits
Mornings aren’t a fight.
The constant on-edge softens; you don’t white-knuckle family time.
The job stays the job - home gets to be home.
You feel steady, grounded, and more like yourself again.
